GIAP (Grupo de Investigación en Arte y Política) es fundado el año 2013 en México por el sociólogo italiano Alessandro Zagato y la téorica del arte chilena Natalia Arcos.
Juntos, realizamos una serie de escritos, presentaciones, exposiciones y actividades sobre Estética y Autonomía; desde 2017 también organizamos residencias para artistas y académicos en Chiapas.
Nos interesa investigar el valor de las poéticas que se levantan al alero de los movimientos sociales, sobre todo en aquellos de raíz indígena.

GIAP (Research Group in Art and Politics) is founded in 2013 in Mexico by Italian sociologist Alessandro Zagato and Chilean art theorist Natalia Arcos.
Together, we do essays, presentations, exhibitions and activities on ideas of aesthetics, art, and autonomy; We also organize residencies for artists and academics in Chiapas at CASA GIAP.

Natalia Arcos
Licenciada en Teoría e Historia del Arte de la Universidad de Chile, Máster de Teoría y Práctica del Arte Contemporáneo en la Universidad París IV-Sorbonne. Como curadora independiente, ha realizado una veintena de exposiciones en Chile, Argentina, Portugal, España, Francia, Italia, Inglaterra, Grecia y Cuba. Desde 2008 a 2013 fue Directora de programación del canal cultural de Tv, ARTV. Actualmente realiza un posgrado en Ciencias Sociales en el Centro de Estudios Superiores de México y Mesoamérica de la Universidad de Artes y Ciencias de Chiapas.
Natalia Arcos has a Degree in Theory and Art History from the University of Chile; has a Master in Contemporary Art from Paris IV-Sorbonne University, where she was the first latin- american accepted. As an independent curator, she has done twenty exhibitions in Chile, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Cuba, England, and Greece. From 2008 to 2013, she was Programming Director of the Chilean Television Channel specialized in art, ARTV. Actually, she follows a Master Degree in Sociology at CESMECA Institute of University UNICACH.
Alessandro Zagato
PhD en Sociología por la Universidad Maynooth de Irlanda. Es el representante regional para América Latina de ARC (Artist at Risk Connection). Colaborador con el proyecto del Concejo Europeo de Investigación «Egalitarianism: Forms, Processes, Comparisons”, liderado por el profesor Bruce Kapferer en la Universidad de Bergen, Noruega. Zagato es autor del libro «El evento de Charlie Hebdo: Imaginarios de Libertad y Control» editorial Berghan Books (2015). Algunas de sus recientes publicaciones incluyen: (2018) “State and Warfare in Mexico. The Case of Ayotzinapa” in Social Analysis; (2018) “The Festival “Comparte por la Humanidad”. Aesthetics and poetics of rebellion in the Zapatista movement ” in Revista Páginas Vol. 9; (2016) “After Ayotzinapa: building autonomy in a civil war.” In Roarmag, January 5. Alessandro es columnista en Konkret Media (L.A) en la sección «Diarios Mexicanos». Es fundador de GIAP y del centro de residencias CASA GIAP.
